Since International Monetary Fund(IMF) approved Ghana's request for Monetary support , there has been alot of claims by Ghanians and some political parties about some flashy and social Intervention programs introduced by the ruling political party. This is what Honourable Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has got to say about some claims about Cancellation of Nurses and Teacher Trainees Allowance;
The claims made by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding the cancellation of the Free SHS Programme and the Teacher and Nursing Trainees Allowance have been refuted by the honourable minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah.
Recently, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) approved a Three billion United States Dollars Extended Credit Facility to Ghana, imposing stringent and challenging conditions. These conditions included the review of certain social intervention policies, which raised concerns about the fate of the Free SHS Programme and the Teacher and Nursing Trainees Allowance. The government, upon receiving this announcement, accepted the conditions and agreed to undertake the necessary reviews.
However, the exact nature of these policy reviews remained unclear, leading to controversies and debates.
During an interview with Neat Fm yesterday, Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah clarified that the government has no intention to eliminate the payment of allowances. Instead, the government is collaborating with relevant agencies to ensure a proper review process that will ultimately save costs for the government. READ MORE
