The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) has issued a demand for the immediate withdrawal of the textbook titled "History of Ghana for Basic Schools - Learners’ Book Four," which was published by Excellence Publications.
NaCCA has clarified that the content of the published book does not accurately align with the approved curriculum.
Certain sections of the circulating textbook inaccurately claim that Christianity is responsible for poverty and assert that religion has incited physical conflicts both in Ghana and worldwide.
Additionally, the textbook suggests that religion fosters a lackadaisical attitude among individuals, deterring them from actively seeking practical solutions to improve their living conditions.
In response, NaCCA has written to Excellence Publications, urging them to promptly remove all copies of the textbook from the market.
The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) has taken notice of a publication circulating in the media concerning the content of the textbook 'History of Ghana for Basic Schools - Learners’ Book Four' published by Excellence Publications.
"The publication from the Excellence Series, which has gone through the standard approval process established by the Council, comes as a surprise since the content as portrayed by the media does not accurately reflect NaCCA's approval.
The Council would like to clarify that the material in question is not an approved educational resource endorsed by NaCCA. We urge the general public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious materials in the market that claim association with NaCCA.
"NaCCA will not hesitate to impose sanctions on publishers who release materials without adhering to the established protocols of the Council. We encourage the public to contact our organization for accurate information regarding appropriate content and materials to be used in pre-tertiary schools.
