Following the sacking of Prof. Opoku Amankwaa, Dr Eric Nkansah was appointed as the Acting Director General for the Ghana Education Service.
Dr Eric Nkansah’s appointment raised a whole lot of chaos on the media space between the teacher unions and government, this resulted to a strike action declared by the teacher unions after giving the government grace period to terminate the appointment of Dr Eric Nkansah because he is not one of our own said the teacher unions and some other matters. Upon further discussions with the teachers unions, the strike action was told to be called off for onwards discussions into the matter.
After the strike was called off, there has not been any update from the teacher unions whether they have agreed to work with the newly appointed Director General Dr. Eric Nkansah.
Dr Eric Nkansah is freely discharging his duties, below are few he is doing and about to do;
The Acting Director-General of GES, Dr Eric Nkansah visited some schools within the Korle Klottey Municipal in the Greater Accra Region and Oforikrom Municipal in Ashanti Region on 5th and 9th December, 2022.
The visit forms part of the DG's school monitoring of the ongoing National Standardised Test (NST).
The schools visited were:
1. Osu Presbyterian Boys Primary School
2. St. Thomas KG/Primary, Osu
3. Ayigya M/A Basic School

He also met and interacted with the primary and Junior High School teachers of the schools.
The results of the National Standardized Test (NST) will generate data at the national level and identify the learning gaps that need to be addressed.
In addition, the NST will provide data to identify and analyse variations in learner achievement by region, gender, location and school type.
This year's NST is being administered to all Primary 2 and Primary 4 pupils in public and some private schools from 5th to 15th December 2022.
The teacher unions must update teachers on the strike we embarked on.
